Moderne Masterpiece

Big Apple Diner

Midtown West, Manhattan - (BTT) Celebrating 70 years of feeding hungry New Yorkers, the Big Apple Diner is still the greasy spoon of choice for the neighborhood's working class. The beautiful Streamline Moderne exterior only gets better as each decade rolls by.

The Complete Package

Courtesy Modular Post Office by frogstudio
Market Street Historic District - (BTT) Letter writing might be a lost art, but there is plenty of art to be found in the artist's studio atop this charming post office. A florist on the ground floor has additional entries onto the short side of Market Street, finally giving purpose to this long neglected part of the neighborhood.

Meet the New Guy

Greetings all!

My name is Jonathan, and I am excited to have been selected by Chris to be the newest author here on Brick Town Talk! I have been fortunate enough to have been featured on the site several times in the past, most recently with my Galaxy Diner and Empire Theater, and those of you who frequent Flickr or post on the Eurobricks forums might know me better by my screen name, sonicstarlight.

I came out of my Lego dark ages around the time the Cafe Corner hit the shelves, and I was instantly in love with the modular line. In addition to all the official releases, I currently have 7 MOCs of my own. I am a purist at heart (technic bricks and pins to join models together, detachable floors, no stickers), and I try to make buildings that work in harmony with the official sets while still being unique.

Seeing all the great creations by others on this site truly served as the inspiration for me to start making my own models, and I promise to do my very best to find and share the best buildings out there with all of you.

I know that no one visits this site to read a novel, so I'll stop writing now and end with a photo of my latest CC-standard creations inspired by The Burrow and Diagon Alley sets. And I promise that going forward, my posts won't all be about me.

Not really buildings exactly, but the US just ended a inspirational era in NASA history. So, check out this cool space shuttle build....in time lapse!

Looking for a New Author

Hello everyone!

I have been very busy lately, as I am sure much of you have as well! College is coming up quickly, so I probably will not be posting as often as I'd like. So, in order for our daily readers to still get the best in LEGO architecture, I'm looking for another author to help me out!

If you're interested, please send me an email to bricktowntalk@gmail.com.

Thanks!

Chris

Micro Farming

Somewhere Rural, United States - (BTT) A new barn went up on the outskirts of town! Sources say its to house Farmer Smith's slick new tractor, that, incredibly, he bought at a recent auction. When asked about the purchase, Smith said, "I have absolutely no intention in using it. It just looks real nice in my barn. I'm a hoarder, you must understand."

At Least the Kids Are Happy

More haste, less speed
Courtesy More Haste, Less Speed by Dark-Alamez

Apartment District - (BTT) "It was like a scene from a movie!" That is what one witness recalls from the accident. Slamming into the hydrant doing 50, the taxi cab came to an immediate stop (obviously.) The initial impact sent the hydrant toppling over and water spewing into the air. "It came as a great relief," one other said of the incident. "It's like 100 degrees out here. Time to go play in the water!" A crowd of kids soon surrounded the scene.

Rochester, Michigan, United States - (BTT) Well, it's not exactly Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, but the building is eye catching enough.

The Tourists Will Be Happy

Courtesy Train Station Royville by Henrik Hoexbroe
Somewhere - (BTT) For years, people complained about the grungy old train station on the outskirts of town. One concerned citizen exclaimed, "It's awful. The first thing people see when they get off the train is this crumbling building. How will that help my business?" Acting on these concerns, the owner of the rail line totally demolished the old structure. Meanwhile, travelers had to wait in a nearby warehouse while the new one was being built. "It was well worth the wait," said one traveler. "Not only was there a slick new train station being built, but I happen to be sitting next to a crate full of Snickers." The traveler lifted up a crowbar and smiled.

New Template!

Hi everyone!

I have introduced a new template, just to try out the style. Let me know what you think!

  • Left Sidebar is gone. Main reason - it was scrunching up the post width.
  • Categories and Related Sites are located on the right side bar, in the middle.
  • I tried to keep the same color theme.
  • Hope you like it!

We Don't Offer Bad Loans

Neoclassical National Bank 1
Courtesy Neoclassical National Bank by BrickCityDepot
Downtown, United States - (BTT) After the banking crisis of 2008 and 2009, one bank saw the opportunity to grow. Basing their image off the "honest" past, Neoclassical National Bank is growing at rates unseen in this decade. Already employing dozens of workers, the bank is planning to expand to other downtowns across the United States. Furthermore, each bank will house a state-of-the-art safe which will be used to store and protect your extremely popular gold from thieves (i.e. the other banks.)

Living by the Tracks

Linesman hut
Courtesy Linesman Hut by bricktrix
Corfe Castle, England - (BTT) After fighting off the city council for years, the Linesman was finally able to break regulation and build a little hut next to the tracks. According to officials, the Linesman said, "I like having my house near the tracks. It's like when you're a kid sitting on top of the washing machine. It's brilliant!"

Art Deco Detroit

Another Detroit Building modeled in LEGO
Courtesy Another Detroit Building by DecoJim
Detroit, Michigan - (BTT) Style and elegance has made it to Motor City. Art Deco has transformed the town into a mainstay for thousands of people. Cars are everywhere, and traffic jams are on the rise. When asked about the problem, the mayor said, "Yeah, it's a huge problem. It's like there's a factory around here making cars or something..." Brick Town Talk refused to ask anymore questions.

A Polish House

A well detailed model with a great rural countryside atmosphere. I think I like the siding the best. Check out his tenement houses too!

Guide the Ships

Courtesy Santiao Chiao Lighthouse by zhan James
Straying away from the city scene, we come upon this terrific lighthouse built by MOCpages user zhan James. The tower itself is perfect, all it needs are some red stripes!

P.S. Lighthouses has been added to the Categories menu to the left!

Grab a 2x4

Western WIP
Courtesy Western WIP by Matija Grguric
Out West, United States - (BTT) More people are flocking to Matija Grguric's town, and that calls for some more buildings! And with more buildings, comes the demand for more lumber! The owner of the local rail line has expressed great joy in the development of this new town. When asked about other shipments to the town, the owner replied, "Hats. Lots of hats and wigs. Everybody's bald around here, I don't get it."

Cheer Up

Courtesy Post-Apoc Toy Store by Theolego
Kind of an odd view on post apocalyptic, but it's unique and I like it. The building is really well down, and has a great dreary look to it. Hopefully that robot will find some free LEGO in there!

Blog Accessibility

Hi everyone!

I apologize for you not being able to access the blog. It appeared that the settings for the blog somehow got switched to "invited readers only" from "anybody." I now switched it back to "anybody"  so it should be working again.

Sorry for the inconvenience! Let me know if there are any further problems.

P.S. Thank you Matt Reid for pointing that out!

Leaves Fall in Paris

Courtesy Autumn Paris by Alibabo
I've seen a lot of Paris related creations, and they've been terrific. The latest, by Brickshelf user Alibabo, depicts a subtle autumn scene in Paris complete with a park and bus stop. The balance in colors is really nice and the worn down sidewalk creates a great sense of realism to the model.

Everyone Needs a Couch

I'm sure you always wanted to buy that $1200 dinner table set. Well now you can with the new furniture store in town. The old town style is really nice on this model, particularly with the large windows that are used. Looks like some recycled Green Grocer if you ask me!

A Much Deserved Thanks...

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that's been following Brick Town Talk on Facebook and Google Friend Connect (and of course to all the others out there too!) We're nearing 100 followers in each, and I can't wait to surpass it! So tell your friends about us! Thanks again, and keep up your fantastic building!

Kind Regards,

Chris

The West Just Got Settled!

Western Market Street
Courtesy Western Market Street by Matija Grguric
The old-fashioned look is well brought out in this layout. It makes me happy to see a  western-themed model again. Plus, you know it's an awesome model when you see a fence made out of droid legs and arms.
Of course, he built a church to go along with it. But wait! There's more!

Let's Eat!

Park and Cafe by stefauster
Another great creation by the guy that built the garage. The courtyard feel is well achieved in this creation and the first floor cafe area is really nice, especially with those dark orange pillars.
