Not much to look at... Yet!

Nowhere near complete - but here's what I managed to do yesterday - mainly creating the different levels in wood. I didn't have the energy to build with LEGO yesterday - but - if you are familiar with this Blog, you will know I want to take my time to get it right. You will also notice that it is nothing like the original drawing that I posted last year. I found once I started to place models that a. you couldn't see them very well (and as they are soooo expensive I wanted to see them) b. they took up more space than I thought - even though it was a scale drawing. Since the drawing I have doubled the size of the layout. From the first picture you will see it goes off in an L-shape, it continues around and there is another full size table on the other side. I hope to get into the loft again today.

  1. Hey!

This is looking really great Richard. I can't wait to see further updates and to see it for myself sometime.

I really like the different heights you have created, that is something I really want to do in my layout, but hadn't considered wooden platforms ... until now!

  2. Why thank you kind sir. I got the new Spring Catalog today - the only new things are the Speed Racers! Hope you enjoy Shefield. BTW I've bought you a surprise present! But you'll have to wait until I come down.

    TTFN! - lol.

  3. Ooh, how exciting I love pressies! (Funnily enough I picked something up for you in LLW as well, but it is only small).

I am sure you will leave my house with more than you came with though!

  4. Looking great Richard!

I have a question though: is that cinema the modded one?

It's too bad you couldn't keep to the original design, but it's ok it's gonna be awesome anyways.

Can't wait for the next developments.

  5. This time I don't agree with Roger. The less official models the better the layout. At least in my eyes. Long live MOCs!!!

  6. I think Roger meant keeping to the original design of the whole of Richard's town, not of the cinema, but I might be wrong!

  7. Nope gizmocom is right :D

I was really talking about a drawing Richard made some time ago of the layout he was thinking about.

  8. Oops... But still, IMHO there are too many official sets on this layout, at least at this stage. Also, CITY "buildings" usually do not mix well with the more detailed CC buildings. For instance, that Police HQ is an eyesore, even so its size is OK. On the other hand, the Town Plan buildings are nice, but they are too small when you put them next to a CC house. Anyways, I hope the number of MOCs will increase over time!

  9. I know what you are saying Akos, but when you start to build a town by yourself (as opoposed to joining together with others at fests) it takes a long time to do a lot of MOCs, so the town would look empty for years! This is what my town will be like too, so gradually the official sets will be replaced by my own models.

I actually really like the police station, although yes it does look a bit strange next to the CC buildings!!

  10. I was really showing a picture of the tables and the raised sections. The models will not be placed in those positions (e.g. the dock from the harbor set is on the other table as this is where a fun fair pier is going). Like Gizmo says the change is from my original drawing. I will include MOCs and official sets - some pimped up a bit, like the town hall and cinema from Town Plan - some kept the same like Green Grocers and Cafe Corner (of course!) and some I have to think very carefully about like the Police Headquarters. The main reason I bought it was that it was on offer and I'm a LEGO addict. If you read this Blog often, you will know I want to take my time over the creation of my layout, but I am also aware that some people are keen to see what I've been up to. Its soooooo different now. I might post some more photographs later if you don't fight.

  11. Heya Richard!

It's looking very promising. I've always been a big fan of elevation changes in a layout. You've definitely peaked my curiosity with this one. I'm anxious to see how you tie it all together.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

  12. Taking it slow and doing it the way you want the first time is the way to go. I like your MOC's.
